Homework for this week

Week 6 Week beginning 25th May

 

Maths: Complete the tasks that have been set for you. If you have highlighted times table that need to be learnt please look at practising those too.

Reading: Using one of the texts you have taken from the library please spend at least 15 minutes each day reading. Please see if you can identify the more frequently used tense. Look at identifying the contractions that you find.

Writing: We have been looking at the apostrophe used for possessions this week. When reading  see if you can find any examples of its use and note it down into your book.

Spelling : Please note down five of the spellings that you have been corrected on and learn them, it may help to use them into a sentences, practice spelling it forwards and backwards.

The Belonging Apostrophe

An apostrophe is used with an s at the end of a noun.

It shows that something or someone belongs to that noun.

 

A.     Write the shortened form of the phrases below:

1.      the bike belongs to the girl = the girl’s bike.

2.     the pen belongs to the boy

3.     the car belongs to the man

4.     the cup belongs to my brother

5.     the ship belongs to the captain

6.     the school belongs to the council

7.     the tie belongs to Sam

8.     the ball belongs to the footballer

9.     the guitar belongs to the singer

Apostrophes and Plurals

 

 

Read the following sentences very carefully. Underline the PROPER NOUNS in blue. Underline the PLURAL NOUNS in red.

 

1.    Sarahs pencils were all sharp.

2.    I enjoy listening to Sophies stories when she reads them to the class.

3.    I am very jealous of Charlottes stickers because she has filled the new Doctor Who album.

4.    As I was going out to play, I tripped over Hannahs trainers.

5.    Georgia, who was always talking about her Nintendo DS, enjoyed hearing about Tias new games.

6.    Bethanys guinea pigs are very naughty!

 

Look carefully at the words you have underlined. Remember, plural nouns do not need an apostrophe.

 

Some of your proper nouns have possessions. Re-write the sentences below using apostrophes correctly.
