Speeches Term 3
Dear Parents of Room 25,
A busy term 2 is almost at
the end, so would like to thank the parents for their support throughout the
term with your child’s learning.
In Term 3 the students will
be writing speeches. These speeches have to be presented in front of the class
in week 4 as part of their oral language. From there, one/ two nominations from
the class will go forward to the school speech competition. I have shown the
students the assessment criteria so they know what they are working towards.
Having taught speeches before, I know that the more familiar the students are
with their chosen topic, the more confident they are in presenting their
speech. To enable them to perform to the best of their ability, I have
organised for them to have their speech topic before the holiday. This enables
me gather resources over the holiday to help them with their arguments.
Their chosen topic will be
glued in to their homework books and I am requesting that they think about
their topic and gather some evidence to support their arguments. All I expect
is that they are familiar with their topic, have a good idea of the main
points they wish to present and have completed some research to support their
points of view.
In week 1, I will then be
able to focus on crafting these ideas into a good persuasive speech. If you
have the opportunity, please could you discuss their speech topic and help your
child to find some evidence to elaborate and substantiate their main points of
view. I am not asking the student to write the speech, just to fully
understand what they will be writing about.
Student must write the
speeches in school based on the APP Speech Rules.
Thank you once again and if
you have any queries please contact me or pop in, the door is always open.
I hope you all have a
wonderful holiday,
Michelle von Detten
